Choosing an image format
JPEG is widely accepted for photos but cannot store transparency. PNG is useful for screenshots, line art and transparent graphics. WebP supports both photos and transparency; check whether the destination accepts it.
What conversion changes
The browser decodes the original pixels and encodes a new file. It keeps the visible orientation and uses your selected background for JPEG. Metadata and color profiles may change, and a conversion does not restore detail lost in an earlier compressed file.
This tool verifies the browser’s returned format before assigning an extension. It supports still JPEG, PNG and WebP images up to 25 MB and 12 megapixels. Animated files are rejected so frames are not silently discarded.
